ATHENS, Ohio -- Community and Professional Programs at Ohio University is sponsoring a series of funding workshops during the Summer. "Fundraising for Non-Profit Organizations" will take place on July 20 and "Grants and How to Get Them" on Aug. 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Grover Center.
The fundraising course will provide a practical introduction to raising money from public and private sources to support nonprofit organizations, using a variety of proven techniques and processes. Managing, planning, and budgeting for fundraising campaigns; vehicles for development, including annual fund programs, direct mail, telephone solicitation, special events, major gifts, and planned giving; personnel issues in fundraising related to volunteers, boards and staff development; and markets for funds such as individuals, corporations, foundations, and government agencies will all be discussed.
During the grantwriting workshop, participants will learn how to raise money from public and private sources to support research projects, organizational or personal interests. This popular one-day seminar is ideal for those with little or no experience in grant writing and will take you step-by-step through proven techniques for identifying and contacting potential funders, developing and submitting proposals, and following up on your requests.
The instructor, Richard Morgan, has been executive director of national and international nonprofit organizations and agencies. He has held high level positions in development and fundraising, and has taught at several colleges and universities throughout Ohio.
Participants will receive a 100-page manual for each workshop to guide them through the grant writing and fundraising process and will be awarded a certificate for .5 CEUs per workshop upon successful completion.
The cost is $75 per workshop although they can be taken as a combo for $135. Both workshops include lunch, materials, instruction and a CEU certificate suitable for framing. University personnel as well as the public are encouraged to attend.
"There are so many people and organizations who would like to apply for grants or need to set up a fundraising campaign of some sort, but don't know how to get started. We hope to demystify the processes in these workshops," said Lisa Dael, Program Coordinator for Community and Professional Programs.
