ATHENS, Ohio -- WOUB-FM 91.3 in Athens will be off the air for lengthy periods of time over the next week, due to work on the station's transmission tower.
Officials from WOUB's technical staff indicate that the station will be off the air from approximately 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on June 10, 11, and 12. This outage will affect the Athens FM transmitter only. Programming will continue as usual for WOUB-AM in Athens (1340), as well as FM network transmitters in Ironton (89.1), Cambridge (89.1), Chillicothe (91.9), and Zanesville (90.1).
Construction crews will be working on the WOUB TV/FM tower over the next week, as WOUB-TV prepares to install a new digital transmitter and antenna. Federal safety regulations require that radio frequency transmitters must be turned off or operated at a reduced power level when workers are near the radiated field. Since much of the work on the tower is very near to the WOUB-FM antenna bays, the station's transmitter will remain off during the work.
We apologize for the loss of programming during this time, but the technical work is the first step in an exciting conversion to digital television for WOUB-TV. Later this summer, as the work progresses, WOUB-TV will also be off the air while the new equipment is installed.
