ATHENS, Ohio -- A photo portfolio of African Americans in a small Ohio town, a story about a geography student's studies of the historical ecology of Baltimore and a tip about an expert in acute and chronic pain are a few of the items featured on three new Web sites designed to highlight the research and creative work of faculty, staff and students at Ohio University.
The sites, launched this month by the Office of Research Communications, display scholarly activity at the university through text, sound, video and photography.
"Discover Research @ Ohio University" is a multimedia site including video, audio and photography that detail faculty research and creative activity. The site was designed by Ohio University senior visual communication major Ellen Peter and will be updated monthly. To access the site, visit Research Communications' homepage at www.ohiou.edu/researchnews and click on the Discover Research @ Ohio University link at the top of the left-hand column.
"Extra Credit" (www.ohiou.edu/researchnews/extracredit) features stories about undergraduate students involved in a variety of research and creative activities. The articles, written by undergraduate students in the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, appear online and are sent to the student scholars' hometown newspapers. The Web site, which will be continuously updated, was designed by Tracy Corrigan, senior Web designer for University Communications and Marketing. Extra Credit is a supplement to a section of the same name that appears in the print edition of Perspectives, the university's research magazine.
Looking for an expert on tension headaches or watershed restoration? Find what you need on the new "Featured Experts" page (www.ohiou.edu/researchnews/experts/). The site will be updated each month with details about faculty who research everything from astronomy to zoology. A search engine also allows visitors to search all of the news releases and publications produced by the office since 1999.
The Office of Research Communications is part of the Vice President for Research division. For more information, e-mail research.news@ohio.edu.
