ATHENS, Ohio -- The division of Lifelong Learning is accepting course proposals for the Winter Intersession 2002, which will be held during winter break, from Dec. 2 through 20. Courses are offered in a compressed format and may meet one, two or three weeks during this time period. The length of time required will depend on the faculty preference, credit hours and format.
The majority of courses offered during the Intersession are geared towards seniors, such as Tier III courses. Other offerings included are courses that either appeal to a great number of students, such as Business Law 255, or courses that appeal to a small number of students and are major-specific, such as PESS 391. Lifelong Learning asks that teachers take into consideration the possibilities that would provide the greatest benefit to all students, such as teaching via microwave to accommodate regional campus students. More than 450 students participated in the intersession courses last year.
Course grades for Winter Intersession will appear on the Winter 2003 grade report. Registration for an intersession course will not prevent a student from registering for 20 credits during the regular Winter Quarter. To accommodate student and faculty needs, the library hours will be extended during the three-week period.
Faculty will be paid on overload contract using overload pay scale for Winter Intersession courses. The deadline for submission is July 1. A delay in placing a course in the schedule of classes has a negative effect on the course enrollment. Students begin checking for Winter Intersession courses during the summer. All approved courses will be listed and regularly added to the registrar's Web page but for inclusion in the printed schedule, courses should be submitted as soon as possible.
