ATHENS, Ohio -- The Black Student Cultural Programming Board (BSCPB) will host a panel discussion entitled "Reparations and the Civil Rights Movement Today," 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, May 20, at Irvine Hall, room 194.
Guest panelists include U.S. Rep. John Conyers Jr., of Michigan's 14th disrict; Kwame Leo Lillard, civil rights activist and director of the African American Cultural Alliance and Taiwo Kujichagulia-Feitu, co-chair of the National Congress of Economic Development Commissioners for the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparation in America (N'Cobra).
The panel will discuss issues such as compensation to the descendents of slaves, also known as reparations, and Civil Rights in today's society through an interactive discussion encouraging opinions and ideas. The speakers will clarify the issues and serve as moderators of the discussion.
"The panelists have dedicated their lives to this issue," said BSCPB Public Relations Coordinator Candice Brooks. "They will educate everyone with clear definitions on reparations and help to improve race relations."
