ATHENS, Ohio -- Telling images from the lives of Afghan refugees will bring their reality close at a Saturday, May 18, dinner in the basement of the First Christian Church, 24 W. State Street. A sequence from "Inshallah: Diary of an Afghan Woman," will be shown following a meal of traditional Afghan food, including a number of vegetarian dishes.
People for Peace and Justice and the Appalachian Peace and Justice Network (APJN) are sponsoring this event. A video about the relief work of Help the Afghan Children's director, Suraya Sadeed, will be shown. It documents the delivery of food and tents in November 2001 to refugees in northern Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Donations for the Afghan relief programs, organized by Oxfam America, Doctors without Borders and the Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development, will be collected to cover food costs.
Reservations may be made at (740) 592-2608 or (740) 448-3071.
