Ohio University's African American Studies department looks at impact of Brown v. Board of Education
ATHENS, Ohio -- Ohio University's Department of African American Studies is sponsoring a series of events to examine the effects of the landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision to desegregate the public school system in 1954. May 17 marks the 48th anniversary of the historic decision. The events are free and open to the public.
Event Schedule:
- Brown Bag Film Series: May 13, 14 and 15 from 12:10 to 1 p.m. -- Baker University Center, 1954 Room
Films include: "Equity Under the Law: The Lost Generation of Prince Edward County," "Lemon Grove (Mexican Americans in California)," "The Road to Brown" and "Where Do We Go From Here?"
- Panel Discussion and Lunch: May 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. -- Howard Hall site under the canopy
A performance by the Gospel Voices of Faith choir and a poetry reading will open the event.
Panel presentations include: "What Lead to Brown v. Board of Education," "The Declaration of Independence and Brown," "Activism Ten Years Later" and "Where Do We Go From Here."
