ATHENS, Ohio -- Ohio University employees will host "Showcase 2002" on Thursday, May 16, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Nelson Commons. The event will include live entertainment, a Bobcat auction, split-the-pot drawing, consignment sale and lunch.
The spring Showcase is held each year to raise money for the Showcase Scholarship fund. The endowed scholarship is for Athens campus employees only and their dependents as defined by University Policy and Procedure. Candidates must have a minimum of 45 completed Ohio University credit hours.
Consignees in the consignment sale will receive 75 percent of the sale price of their item, while the remaining 25 percent is donated to the Showcase Scholarship fund. To place items in the sale, consignees must donate at least one item to the Bobcat auction.
Typical items up for the auction and consignment sale include wood carvings, drawings, paintings, sewn and knitted clothing, stained glass and baked goods.
The Showcase Committee encourages people who wish to sell, donate or display items or talents in the showcase to return a registration form by May 8 to Cheryl Sickels, Employee Records, 2051 HDL Center.
The first showcase was conducted in 1998 at the impetus of former Ohio University administrator David Smith. After being recognized as an Outstanding Administrator in 1996, he asked that his award money be used to bring campus employees together for a social function.
