Residence hall computer sale begins May 1

ATHENS, Ohio -- As a result of an computer upgrade in Ohio University's residence halls this summer, approximately 2,000 computers will be declared surplus property and sold for $100 each. The sale only includes the central processing unit (CPU).

Ohio University departments, faculty, staff, students and registered student organizations can order the computers between May 1 and May 30, 2002, at www.facilities.ohiou.edu/scesale

Monitors, printers, keyboards and mice are not included in the sale, however, mice and keyboards will be available to customers free of charge when picking up their computers. The first computers should be available around June 24, with additional units becoming available throughout the summer as upgrades are completed.

University departments and registered student organizations can order multiple computers, but Ohio University students, faculty and staff are limited to one per person. Individuals must have a valid OAK login to place an order, while departments and student organizations must provide a valid Ohio University account number when ordering. Departments may elect to pick up their units or have them delivered by Moving Services for a nominal fee.

Only cash or checks will be accepted for individual purchases and payment must be completed during pickup.

Computers sold to the university community will be cleaned and tested, the hard drives purged of all files and a new hard drive image installed.
