ATHENS, Ohio -- The talents and traits of Barbra Streisand, Boy George, Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton will be among those on stage at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 27, in Templeton-Blackburn Memorial Auditorium at Ohio University when "Illusions of the Stars," a female impersonation group, puts on a benefit performance for the Athens AIDS Task Force (AATF).
The event captures the likes of several famous stage and screen performers in a show that meshes Broadway, Hollywood and Athens in an entertaining mix. This year's performance will include impersonations of approximately 15 celebrities.
Tickets are currently on sale at the Memorial Auditorium box office. The cost is $15 for the general public and $5 for Ohio University students. The doors will open at 7 p.m.
"Illusions" has been performing in southeastern Ohio for several years and this is the group's 11th show at Ohio University. All the proceeds benefit the AATF, an outreach program providing services, information and education to persons living with HIV and their families in southeastern Ohio.
The show is being organized and sponsored by units in the Ohio University Office of Student Affairs: Public Occasions, POWER (Promoting Ohio University Wellness Education and Responsibility), Department of Health and Wellness, and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Student Programs.
"The Illusions performers always present a highly entertaining show," said Health Education and Wellness Director Charlene Kopchick, who is helping to coordinate the show. "This offers a great opportunity for the university and community to join forces for a worthy cause. Last year, more than 600 spectators enjoyed the performance, and we're hoping for a larger crowd this year."
