Ohio University Internet outages scheduled for spring break
ATHENS, Ohio -- Communication Network Services has scheduled several blocks of time to allow them to perform upgrades and maintenance to the campus' major computer network systems during spring break. A listing of outages follows:
- Network maintenance/outage from 5:30 to 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19
This work is in preparation to add a second Internet Service Provider. It will disrupt the primary Internet connection for the main Ohio University campus and regional campuses. All inbound and outbound Internet traffic will be affected such as Web access and e-mail. Internal traffic should be unaffected.
- Redbud and Oak maintenance/outages from 5:30 p.m. to midnight on Wednesday, March 20, through Friday, March 22
This work is for OS upgrades and as a result the following services may be unavailable:
- Accessing, sending and receiving e-mail via Oak
- Student and faculty Web pages served from Oak
- DCE authentication
- Electronic directory services (LDAP, X.500)
- Mail delivery via "ohio.edu" and "ohiou.edu"
- Webservices such as software downloads
- Blackboard
- Remedy work order system
- Storage Area Network (SAN) maintenance/outage from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 23
This work is for hardware replacement and firmware upgrades. Services from Oak, Redbud and Mead (listed above) will be unavailable.
- Novell maintenance/outages from 5:30 p.m. to midnight on Thursday, March 21, and Friday, March 22
This work is for reconfiguring several of the servers. The various Novell services may or may not be available during that time.
The maintenance work may or may not require all of the times listed above. However, it is also possible that additional work may be required during the evening or weekend hours.
