ATHENS, Ohio -- Ohio University Facilities Management has announced that it has changed the time of its planned electrical power outage at many campus buildings on Saturday, March 23. The four-hour outage was moved up two hours and will now take place from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m.
The outage is a result of Facilities Management setting up a temporary OU2 transformer and removing a temporary feeder from the Ridges transformer. The work is being done to avoid unexpected power outages due to overloads on the university's two main transformers because of the increased use of air conditioners that accompanies warmer weather.
The following campus buildings will be affected by the power outage: Anderson, Boyd, Grosvenor, James, Irvine, Parks, Porter, Ryors, Sargent, Stocker, Treudley and Wilson halls; Convocation Center, Grover Sub, Aquatic Center, Bird Arena, Peden Stadium, Surface Science Building, Wilson Research Building, Custodial Storeroom, Central Food Facility, Wren Complex, Parks Hall Parking Attendant Booth, Lausche Heating Plant, Facilities Management Compound, Human Resources Training Building, Ohio University Garage, Ping Center and the Ohio University Golf Course Building.
Buildings at The Ridges will have a momentary power outage at the beginning and end of the work period.
Ohio University currently has three 14 MVA (megavolt-ampere) transformers, but will replace them with two 33 MVA transformers this summer. Each of the larger transformers will be capable of providing the entire campus with electricity.
Anyone with special needs or concerns concerning the outages should contact the Facilities Management Customer Service Desk at at (740) 593-2911.
