ATHENS, Ohio -- Entrepreneur and author Katherine (Kay) Hammer will discuss her journey from academia to president and CEO of her own software company with the Southeast Ohio Women in Networking Thursday, March 14, at 8 a.m. at the Ohio University Inn and Conference Center.
Drawing on her experience as a successful entrepreneur, she will offer advice and techniques to succeed in the business world during a breakfast reception. A question and answer period will follow the talk. The talk is free and open to the public.
This event is cosponsored by Southeast Ohio Women in Networking, a membership association focused on expanding networking opportunities for business women throughout Southeast Ohio, and the Senior Policy Fellow Program at Ohio University's Voinovich Center for Leadership and Public Affairs.
Hammer, founder, president and CEO of Evolutionary Technologies International, Inc., designed ETI_Extract Tool Suite, a leading edge technology that helps automate the task of keeping data consistent across different platforms. Dubbed the "king of data conversion" by Database Programming and Design Magazine, the program consistently receives the highest rating on the Crossroads A List of proven enterprisewide applications.
ETI has been featured on the cover of Forbes magazine and twice ranked in the top 20 of Inc. magazine's 500 fastest growing companies.
After teaching linguistics for six years Hammer decided to make a transition to software. She was a visiting scholar at the Center for Cognitive Science at the University of Texas at Austin; a systems programmer for Texas Instruments and a lead designer for the user interface subsystem for an interactive CAD system.
In 1988, with funding from MCC's Advanced Computing Technology Program, Hammer and a six-member research team developed what became the ETI_Extract Tool Suite.
Hammer is author of the acclaimed "Workplace Warrior: Insights and Advice for Winning on the Corporate Battlefield," which combines personal war stories and candid lessons from the front lines with techniques to succeed in today's fiercely competitive business climate.
She is a senior policy fellow with Ohio University's Voinovich Center for Leadership & Public Affairs.
Ohio University's Voinovich Center for Leadership and Public Affairs extends knowledge beyond Ohio University's campus to people in government, education, business and public organizations by providing applied research, training, technical assistance and innovative solutions. All Voinovich Center Senior Policy Fellows are invited to visit the Athens campus of Ohio University quarterly to participate in a variety of student, faculty and community-related activities.
Although the talk is free and open to the public, space is limited and preregistration is required. Please contact Kate Leeman at (740) 597-1686 or leeman@ilgard.ohiou.edu to register.
