Award-winning writer Lucy Grealy to speak

ATHENS, Ohio -- Award-winning poet and essayist Lucy Grealy will read from her work on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 8 p.m. The reading will be held in the School of Music Recital Hall and is free and open to the public.

Described by Booklist as "a tremendously powerful writer," Grealy is the author of the acclaimed book, "Autobiography of a Face." The memoir, which was chosen as a New York Times Notable Book, chronicles her childhood struggles with the pain and social stigma of physical disfigurement. Grealy's most recent book is a collection of essays, "As Seen on TV: Provocations."

Grealy, a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College and the Iowa Writers' Workshop, lives in New York City and teaches writing at The New School and Bennington College. She is the recipient of a Whiting Writer's Award.

The reading is sponsored by the Program in Creative Writing of the Department of English.
