ATHENS, Ohio -- Ohio University's College of Business has announced the appointment of Ted Compton as O'Bleness Professor of Management Information Systems for the 2001-02 academic year.
"I am very honored and excited about this position," said Compton. "It is an opportunity to serve the university and the community."
Compton, who has been teaching at Ohio University since 1977, is a professor of MIS and accounting. His previous positions within the university included associate dean of the College of Business and chair of the accounting department.
"Using MIS skills and being able to apply them to other areas of business is extremely important and he is uniquely qualified to bring that aspect to the students," said College of Business Dean Glenn Corlett.
Compton received his doctorate in accounting from the University of Cincinnati, his master's degree from Xavier University and his bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky. His prior business experience includes positions with Cincinnati Milacron, Sperry Rand Corporation and W.G. Seinshiemer and Associates, a Cincinnati based consulting firm. His articles have been published in a variety of accounting and systems journals and he has served on the editorial boards of the Ohio CPA Journal and the Journal of Systems Management. He is a certified management accountant and a certified computer professional.
The College of Business has six endowed professorships in recognition of Charles G. O'Bleness, a philanthropist who graduated from Ohio University in 1898 and established the Charles G. O'Bleness Foundation for the Athens area.
