Public television's 'GED Connection' offers another chance for a high school diploma

ATHENS, Ohio -- Beginning Jan. 26, WOUB/WOUC-TV will air the new "GED Connection" series offering area residents a second chance at receiving their high school equivalency diplomas. "GED Connection" targets those adults who would like to obtain their General Equivalency Diploma, but are unable to attend regular GED classes. The program allows individuals to study for the test in their own homes, at their own paces.

The series is divided into reading, writing, and mathematics sections. "GED Connection" begins airing on WOUB/WOUC-TV at 7:30 a.m. Jan. 26 and two repeat broadcasts will be offered the following Monday at 3 p.m. and the following Saturday at 7 a.m. Students can register and choose to purchase workbooks, $15.00 each or $40.00 for the set of three, by calling 1-800-228-READ.

Homework help is also available to students in the program. Local Adult Basic and Literacy Education groups will staff a toll-free homework hotline and assist with registration for the GED test when students are ready.

Produced with humor, imagination and creativity by the Kentucky Network, Kentucky's public television network, "GED Connection" is funded by the Ohio University Office of Regional Higher Education and the Ohio Literacy Network.

The Ohio University Telecommunications Center, a unit of the College of Communication, operates two television stations: WOUB-TV/Channel 20 in Athens and WOUC-TV/Channel 44 in Cambridge; one cable channel: WOUB II; and six radio stations: WOUB-1340 AM, WOUB-91.3 FM, WOUC-89.1 FM, WOUH-91.9 FM, WOUL-89.1 FM and WOUZ-90.1 FM. The center, a trusted community resource, uses the power of noncommercial television, radio and other media, such as the World Wide Web, to enrich the lives of children and adults in southeastern Ohio, western West Virginia, and eastern Kentucky through quality programs and educational services that inform, enlighten, inspire and entertain.
