Hei-Mei Chung MFA Thesis Screening

ATHENS, Ohio -- Ohio University graduate student Hei-mei Chung, a former painter and fine arts teacher, will host her thesis film screening at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18 in the university's Seigfred Hall Mitchell Auditorium. The screening is free and open to the public.

Formosa, Mar 16-18 00, her second-year film, concerns the second Presidential election of Taiwan in March of 2000. The documentary combines artistic and symbolic images with television news footage of the election to objectively show the passion of Taiwanese people and their complicated consciousness of modern Taiwanese history.

Spring, her thesis film, was shot on 16mm film and finished to MiniDV and BetaSP in Taiwan last March. The film illustrates how two Taiwanese women with delicate souls survive in post-industrial Taiwan and how they live with concepts of their society. The "slow dolly" and the "long take" camera movements are mixed freely with Hollywood's "jump cut" editing style.

Chinese drinks and snacks will be served during an 8 p.m. reception in the lobby of Seigfred.
