'Family Health' celebrates 20th anniversary
This year, the "Family Health" radio series celebrates its 20th season of providing useful health information to radio listeners around the world. Currently, the daily 2 1/2 minute health feature is heard by 12 million listeners on nearly 300 domestic stations and reaches an international audience via airplay on the U.S. Armed Forces Radio Network. You can hear "Family Health" locally on WOUB-FM weekdays at 9 a.m., WOUB-AM at 12:25 p.m., WAIS in Nelsonville at 12:30 p.m. and WJKW in Athens at 5:15 p.m.
The series began in June of 1980 as a co-production of the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and Telecommunications Center. Since then, Family Health has had three hosts and five producers, but the goal has remained the same -- to provide facts and dispel myths on common health-related issues. "Family Health" is hosted by Harold C. Thompson III, D.O., and is produced by Bryan Gibson. The project director is Carl J. Denbow, Ph.D.
There is a special web page commemorating the series' anniversary at: www.fhradio.org/anniversary.html. In addition, an anniversary celebration will be held Friday, Jan. 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. in Radio Studio A on the third floor of the RTVC Building.
