ATHENS, Ohio -- Jon Andresen, president of California-based Technology Solutions, a consulting and system integration firm, will serve as Stocker Visiting Professor in Ohio University's Russ College of Engineering and Technology for the winter quarter.
During his time at Ohio University, Andresen will assist in teaching Contemporary Integrated Manufacturing Systems and in continuing development, research and educational activities of the Center for Automatic Identification. He also will be involved with the Center for Information Technology Education and lecturing for the colleges of Engineering and Business and the Global Learning Community.
Discussing his role as a teacher Andresen said, "In the business world I would learn things on demand but I've never been required to stand back and accumulate all of that into a cohesive story; my challenge is to make that story useful for the students."
For the last 15 years he has held various computer systems positions with United Airlines, including technical architect in the Information Systems Division. Andresen's achievements in the auto identification and data capture industry are noteworthy. In his career with the airline, he spearheaded efforts to standardize part numbers between airlines and airplane manufacturers. He has served as the founder and chair of the airline industry's SPEC 2000 Bar Code Taskforce and was awarded the Don Percival Award in 1997 in recognition of his work in the auto identification and data capture industry.
Andresen has a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from California State Polytechnic University and master's in mechanical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The visiting professorship is funded by an endowment to the Russ College of Engineering and Technology by C. Paul and Beth K. Stocker and allows the college to enhance its educational and research programs.
