ATHENS, Ohio -- On Wednesday night in Chicago, the Ohio University men's basketball team remained undefeated by defeating DePaul, 77-75. The win improved the Bobcats' record to 3-0 and moved them one step closer to beginning a season 4-0 for the third time in four years.
Junior forward Brandon Hunter led the Bobcats with 25 points, while senior forward Jon Sanderson and junior swingman Sonny Johnson scored 15 and 14, respectively. Hunter and senior center Patrick Flomo shared top rebounding honors in the game with eight apiece.
The win over DePaul, a Conference USA member, sets up another showdown with Big Ten foe Wisconsin this Saturday at 3 p.m. in Athens. The Badgers, a team with three straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Final Four showing in 2000, defeated the Bobcats, 65-40, in Madison, Wis., last season. Despite a 6-2 all-time record against Wisconsin, Ohio has managed to split the two games played in Athens, winning 81-80 in 1970-71 and dropping an 82-68 decision in 1972-73.
The Wisconsin game will be shown statewide on the Ohio News Network and in southeastern Ohio, West Virginia and northern Kentucky by WSAZ-TV in Huntington, W.Va. It also will be carried by WMLW-TV in Milwaukee and WISC-TV in Madison, Wis.
Ohio University Associate Vice President for Communications and Marketing Hub Burton will serve as play-by-play commentator, while former Western Michigan University Head Basketball Coach Bob Donewald and ex-Bobcat player Chad Estis will provide the color commentary.
The game marks Ohio University Employee and City Employee Appreciation Day as well as Educational Outreach Day. University and city employees will receive one free ticket for every one purchased, while all Athens elementary and middle school students will receive a free voucher for two free tickets.
