Statement on Ohio University's Status in Light of Terrorist Attacks

ATHENS, Ohio -- "The entire Ohio University community is shocked and terribly saddened by the string of terrorist attacks in America today," Ohio University Interim Provost Gary Schumacher said.

"We are monitoring the situation as it unfolds and making necessary adjustments. Based on current information, we have decided it is in the best interest of Ohio University students for the university to remain open and employees to continue working as scheduled at the Athens campus and regional campuses until further notice," Schumacher said.

For updated information on Ohio University's response to the situation, check the Ohio University Web site: http://www.ohiou.edu/

A series of vigils and discussions will be held on campus this evening. The time, locations and speakers will be posted on the Web as they are determined.

The Ohio University staff stands ready to provide assistance and support to any students needing it. Students should call the Dean of Students Office, (740) 593-1800, and general information can be obtained by calling (740) 593-4000. The Web is the best source for updates.

Students, faculty and staff are being offered the opportunity to watch the news as it develops on the large screen in Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium.
