ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio baseball coach Joe Carbone announced the signing
of three student-athletes to national letters of intent for the 2003
baseball season on Monday. Utility player Matt Geiger,
pitcher/infielder Anthony Gressick and middle infielder Drew
Zickafoose, all of whom are seniors at their respective high
schools, were signed by Carbone as part of the NCAA's early signing
period.
Geiger has played third base, first base, and the outfield at
Liberty High School in Bethlehem, Pa. A left-handed hitter, Geiger
stands 6-2 and weighs 180.
Gressick is a right-handed pitcher and infielder at Fisher Catholic
High School in Lancaster. He helped Lancaster win the Ohio American
Legion championship last summer.
Zickafoose is a senior shortstop/second baseman at Adena High School
in Chillicothe.
"With the loss of only three seniors from this coming year's team,
we feel that we have filled our needs," said Carbone, who enters his
14th season as the Bobcats' head coach in 2002. Ohio returns 17
letter winners from a 2001 squad that finished 29-25. The Bobcats
are scheduled to open their 2002 campaign on Feb. 23 at UNC
Greensboro.
