ATHENS, Ohio - Christine Heindl, associate professor of painting in Ohio University's School of Art, is the recipient of a 2001 Guggenheim Fellowship Award.
"The awarding of a John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship to Chris Heindl is an enormous honor that brings national recognition to her and the School of Art," says Bob Lazuka, interim director of the School of Art. "Chris should look upon this fellowship as a 'vote of confidence' from one of the foremost supporters of the arts."
Guggenheim Fellowships are awarded to advanced professionals with significant achievement and exceptional promise for the future. The award of approximately $36,000 allows Fellows time to pursue their own scholarly or creative work free from other duties.
Heindl, who has taught at the School of Art since 1994, has spent the past several years creating a body of work reflective of the ever-changing urban landscape of a particular block in New York City. She is currently on sabbatical in New York.
The School of Art is part of the College of Fine Arts.
