Madeleine Scott Elected to National Dance Posts
ATHENS, Ohio - Madeleine Scott, director of the Ohio University School of Dance and faculty member since 1980, was elected secretary of the National Association of Schools of Dance (NASD) and president of the Council of Dance Administrators (CODA).
"Dance is an art form that resides in the body and is rooted in the core of the human spirit. It fulfills man's need to express all aspects of the human condition - in times of great joy and paralyzing grief," says Scott. "Dance will continue to be a vibrant part of our cultural expression in the future and a strong contributor to a diverse educational experience."
The work of these organizations advances the role of the arts and dance in our educational institutions and society, and Ohio University's School of Dance's status as an accredited charter member of these organizations supports the excellence that Ohio's dance program has achieved. The school of dance is part of the Ohio University College of Fine Arts.
The National Association of Schools of Dance was founded in 1981 "to develop a closer relationship among schools and programs of dance for the purpose of examining and improving practices and professional standards in dance education and training." CODA initiated the articulation and development of dance standards that became integral to NASD.
