Robert Hampton Included in Finalists for Ohio University Provost
ATHENS, Ohio - Robert Hampton, associate provost for academic affairs and dean for undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland, has joined the group of finalists for the provost position at Ohio University. Ellen Wartella, dean of the College of Communication at the University of Texas at Austin, has withdrawn her candidacy for the position.
"We are indeed fortunate that the search for our next provost has enjoyed such a tremendous response and generated such talented candidates that we may now include Dr. Hampton," said Ohio University President Robert Glidden. "It has been a difficult task to narrow the field to only four finalists and being able to bring him to campus only strengthens what has already been an extremely positive process."
Hampton earned his bachelor's degree from Princeton University and his master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Michigan. He is widely published in the field of family violence and is one of the founders of the Institute of Domestic Violence in the African American Community. Hampton will visit campus Nov. 18 - 20 and meet the community in an open forum at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 19, in Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium.
Fred Kitterle, dean of liberal arts at Northern Illinois University, met the campus community Monday, Nov. 5; Herman Saatkamp, dean of liberal arts at Indiana and Purdue University-Indianapolis, will meet the campus community Tuesday, Nov. 13; and Steve Kopp, dean of the College of Health Professions at Central Michigan University, will meet the campus community Thursday, Nov. 15. All open forums with the candidates for provost will begin at 4:30 p.m. in Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium.
