ZANESVILLE, Ohio -- On Tuesday, Nov. 6, Ohio University-Zanesville honored veterans with "Celebrate Freedom," a ceremony to honor the freedom to vote and the veterans who fought so all Americans may have
that right.
"While Veterans Day is held on Nov. 11, for many of us it will now be Sept. 11," said
keynote speaker Ronald E. Rosser, a Korean War Veteran and Congressional Medal of Honor
recipient.
Also addressing a crowd that included Muskingum County Commissioner Ed Kenily and Zanesville
Mayor Jack Fenton, was the Veteran's Administration representative on the Zanesville Campus,
Bryan Kelso. Kelso, a veteran who is also an Ohio University-Zanesville student, spoke on his involvement in
Desert Storm. Patriotic musical selections were provided by student Adam Jones and the "Kids at
Heart:" Bob Rider, Paul Shannon, Dave Moon and Bob Long.
A flag raffle was held in conjunction with the event to raise funds for the OUZ/Veteran's
Scholarship which will provide educational opportunities for all veterans. Monica Jones of Zanesville
won the grand prize, a 5-foot by 8-foot flag flown over the United States Capitol Building on June 9, and Earl Gadd, also of Zanesville, won the second flag raffled off.
