Dedication of Grover Center Announced

ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio University's newest academic facility, Brandon T. Grover Center, will be publicly dedicated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, prior to the Ohio football game against Bowling Green.

Brandon "Tad" Grover and Jane Scheel, children of the building's namesake, Brandon T. "Butch" Grover, will participate in a ribbon-tying ceremony to re-dedicate the building in their father's memory. Gary Neiman, dean of the College of Health and Human Services, and Pam Callahan, facilities planner lead for the building renovation project, also will offer remarks at the ceremony, to be held in the central atrium of the building.

"The College of Health and Human Services is delighted to be physically reunited in such a wonderful facility," said Neiman. "For the first time in its 21 year existence, the college's six academic units reside in one building and we are especially honored that the building is Grover Center. The Grover name has come to stand for excellence and continuity at Ohio University, as well as in the community."

The building, originally built in 1959 as a basketball coliseum, is named in honor of a legendary Ohio University athlete, coach and administrator. In later years, the building was used for physical education classes and intramural sports-both administered by the College of Health and Human Services. The college's need for additional academic space led to a five-year, $24.5 million renovation and expansion of the facility, which was completed in spring 2001.Classes were first held in the "new" building in September, fulfilling the last of 12 original goals set when the college was established in 1979 - to house all academic units in a comprehensive complex.
