Ohio University Journalism Student Wins Elite Scholarship
ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio University student Nadia Bashir of Cincinnati, a senior in the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, is the recipient of the Ken Kashiwahara Radio and Television News Director Association Scholarship (RTNDA). The scholarship, which was developed by retired ABC News Bureau Chief and longtime correspondent Ken Kashiwahara, is awarded to aspiring minority journalists.
RTNDA awards only 16 scholarships nationwide, and the $2,500 Kashiwahara scholarship is the second largest in monetary amount.
"Because the RTNDA is the largest and most respected professional organization for broadcast journalists, the prestige of winning one of its scholarships not only reflects on Nadia, but also the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism," said Mary Rogus, associate professor of journalism.
Bashir is the president of Ohio University's RTNDA chapter and also works at WOUB, a public radio and television station operated by the Ohio University Telecommunications Center. She is a graduate of Walnut Hills High School and the daughter of Sa'ad and Kai Bashir of Cincinnati.
