Getting around the Athens campus just got a little easier. Ohio University is once again operating a free shuttle service that will make a loop around campus and The Ridges this quarters as a pilot project.
The Bobcat Express, which will begin operation on Tuesday, January 3, the first day of classes, is available from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays. The 15-passenger van will make eight stops -- at Peden Stadium, Ping Center, the Oasis, Baker Center (front entrance), Grosvenor Hall, the Convocation Center parking lot (south side) and the Child Development Center, the Kennedy Museum and Building 19 on The Ridges -- at half-hour intervals.
The service is a pilot project and will be re-evaluated after winter quarter, said Kim Wortman, interim director of campus services. The decision of whether to continue it -- or possibly expand it -- will be based on ridership, cost and similar factors.
"We are looking at ways we can provide value-added services to students, faculty and staff," Wortman said. "Free and reliable transportation certainly fits that theme."
