Workplace Warrior to Visit Ohio University

ATHENS, Ohio (October 19, 2000) -- Kay Hammer, author of the book, "Workplace Warrior: Insights and Advice for Winning on the Corporate Battlefield," will be in Athens October 26 and 27 to meet with students and faculty. Hammer is the co-founder and CEO of Evolutionary Technologies International (ETI), an Austin-based high-tech firm that Inc. magazine twice rated in the top 20 of the 500 fastest growing companies. She is a Senior Policy Fellow for 2000-2001 at Ohio University's Voinovich Center for Leadership and Public Affairs.
Hammer earned her Ph.D. in English Linguistics from the University of Iowa and taught at the college level. She then made a transition to software development and joined the Microelectronics and Computer Technology Corporation (MCC), where she developed the technology that today is the ETI-EXTRACT ® Tool Suite. ETI was founded to commercialize this leading-edge technology, which helps automate the task of keeping data consistent across different platforms. Hammer serves on the Lt. Governor Perry's Advisory Council on the Digital Economy.
While on campus Hammer will meet with students and faculty, as well as
give a presentation on vision and strategy to the Executive Leadership
Institute for state government executives and talk to MBA students about
her experience as a high-tech entrepreneur. Regarding her coming visit, Hammer said: "As the global economy andInternet are forcing us to re-evaluate our assumptions on an almostweekly basis, it is critical that business, academia, and the governmentlearn to work more effectively together. Organizations like the Voinovich Center offer venues in which this can happen."
Ohio University's Voinovich Center is a recognized leader in multidisciplinary research, teaching, training and professional development programs that advance the understanding and application of leadership and organizational strategies. The Voinovich Center brings under its umbrella an innovative mix of institutes, programs and research groups. Each year the center appoints three or four leaders from the private and public sectors to serve as Senior Policy Fellows. Fellows participate in a number of student and faculty-related activities and they visit the Athens campus of Ohio University once each quarter for two to four days.
