Ohio Soccer Wins at Bowling Green, 1-0
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (October 15, 2000) -- The Ohio soccer team ended its four-game losing streak with a 1-0 win at Bowling Green on Sunday afternoon. Freshmen Carolyn Valade (Brighton, Mich.) scored the game-winner in the second half for the victory.
With the win, the Bobcats improve to 7-8 overall and 5-4 in the MAC. The Falcons drop to 7-7 overall and 5-4 in the conference.
The two teams played a scoreless first half, with Ohio having perhaps the best scoring chance. With 5:30 left before intermission, freshmen Christel Schiering (Cincinnati) lofted a shot, and BG goalkeeper Erika Flanders tipped it just enough to keep it out of the net. The ball glanced off the crossbar.
The Bobcats got on the board early in the second half when Valade poked a shot home in front of the net. Junior Meghan McCoy (Akron) was credited with an assist on the play.
The Falcons were unable to get the ball past Bobcat keeper Anita Alexander (Hudson), who made seven saves for her first shutout of the season.
The Bobcats return home this weekend for a two-game home stand against Western Michigan on Friday at 4 p.m. and Northern Illinois on Sunday at 1 p.m.
