Contact: Connie Romine, (740) 593-4300.
ATHENS, Ohio (October 13, 2000) -- Homecoming events this year will combine traditional fare with new offerings, including the first ever Taste of Court Street festival. Set for 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, the event will feature booths manned by about 15 local restaurants and other merchants as well as additional businesses participating at their locations. Court Street will be closed to vehicles from Union to Washington streets and performers will roam the Uptown area to entertain visitors.
"We want to bring the community, university and student body together in a collaborative event that lends itself to Homecoming," said Connie Romine, associate executive director of alumni relations. "It is our hope that we have a good time together in a constructive format and hope the businesses enjoy gathering in a pedestrian setup."
When Taste of Court Street winds down at 8 p.m., local bands will rock Uptown for three hours as part of the Ohio University Habitat for Humanity Coalition Benefit Concert Roulette to raise money to build a home in Southeast Ohio.
