Ohio Football to Host NASCAR Day
ATHENS, Ohio (October 3, 2000) -- College football and NASCAR come together Saturday, October 7 at Ohio University's Peden Stadium. Prior to the Ohio Bobcats' game with the Buffalo Bulls, replica showcars and trucks from the pro-racing circuit will be on display on the track at the south end of the stadium. Ticketholders for the 7 p.m. game will be given access to the vehicle display area between 4-6:30 p.m.
Dale Earnhardt Junior's #8 Winston Cup racecar, with its familiar red and white Budweiser design, heads the list of vehicles that will be on display. Fans will have the chance to see the various styles of autos from four different levels of pro racing. The #50 Dr. Pepper car from the Busch Series, #60 Cat Rental truck from the Craftsman Truck Series and the Wildwood Inn #91 car from the ARCA Series will round out the lineup. Willie Green, the driver of the Wildwood Inn vehicle, will also be answering questions and signing autographs.
"We know there are a lot of NASCAR fans in Southeast Ohio and probably just as many college football fans," said Derek Scott, Director of marketing for Ohio Athletics. "We want to give folks a chance to have fun with both on Saturday."
Tickets for NASCAR Day are available at the Ohio Athletics Ticket Office in the Convocation Center or by calling 1-800-575-CATS. The office is open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. weekdays and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Ticket booths at Peden Stadium will open at 4 p.m. on gameday.
A special entrance to the vehicle display area will be set up on the south end of the parking lot adjoining the west side of Peden Stadium. A game ticket will be necessary for access to this area. However, fans will be able to leave the area and reenter the stadium through the traditional ticket
gates prior to game time.
