Event Planned for Viewing of Debates

Contact: Ann Gordon, (740) 593-4377

ATHENS, Ohio (September 29, 2000) -- The Ohio University Department of Political Science will host a "Debate Watch" for the first debate between presidential candidates Texas Gov. George W. Bush and Vice President Al Gore at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, in Nelson Commons Dining Hall. The event is designed to help voters learn more about the candidates and issues.

Professors Ann Gordon and Michael Burton of the Political Science Department and Professor of Interpersonal Communication Jerry Miller, experts on campaigns and political communication, will provide commentary before and after the debate. They also will provide non-partisan answers to any campaign questions.

"We hope this will help voters learn more about the candidates," said Gordon, an organizer of the event. "Also, it provides an opportunity for us to come together as a community to talk about the important issues in this election."

The Debate Watch is free and open to all members of the Ohio University and Athens communities.
