ATHENS, Ohio (September 26, 2000) -- An oil painting of Charles G. O'Bleness and a plaque recognizing the 2000-01 O'Bleness professors in Ohio University's College of Business were unveiled Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Copeland Hall.
Philanthropist Charles G. O'Bleness, graduated from Ohio University in 1898 and later established the Charles G. O'Bleness Foundation. The foundation supported the first two endowed professorships in the history of Ohio University. The first endowment was in economics in 1965 and the second was in banking in 1979. O'Bleness died in 1969 at the age of 92.
The College of Business has six O'Bleness Foundation endowed professorships. The endowments provide the college with funds for a portion of the professors' salaries and research projects.
This year's O'Bleness professors are Ashok Gupta, professor of marketing; James Perotti, professor of MIS; Ganas Rakes, professor of finance and banking; John Schermerhorn Jr., professor of management systems; Florence Sharp, professor of accountancy; and David Payne, executive in residence.
The portrait of O'Bleness, located in the first floor lobby of Copeland, was painted by former Ohio University Professor of Drawing Dwight Mutchler who taught at the university from 1950 to 1968.
