ATHENS, Ohio (September 26, 2000) -- Visits by Oregon State and Long Beach State to The Convo highlight the 2000-01 Ohio women's basketball schedule, head coach Lynn Bria announced today. Minnesota, Pittsburgh and Wright State also visit Athens during a five-game homestand in November and December.
Road games include the season opener at Evansville Nov. 21 and trips to Radford, Elon and the College of Charleston before Christmas. The Bobcats also participate in Florida's State Farm Classic December 28-29 in Gainesville.
The Mid-American Conference schedule features the normal home-and-home series with East Division opponents Akron, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Kent State, Miami and Marshall, plus a single home game against Akron. The Bobcats will travel to West Division foes Ball State, Central Michigan and Toledo, while hosting Eastern Michigan and Northern Illinois.
"I think our schedule will really challenge us," Bria said. "I hope that our non-conference games will prepare us for the league like it is supposed to. We have some very good teams coming to Athens in Oregon State, Long Beach State, Minnesota and even Pittsburgh. The Rutgers game alone could tell us where we are since they are coming off a Final Four appearance."
The Bobcats return all five starters and three other reserves from last year's 11-17 team. Preseason practice begins October 13 with exhibition games slated for Nov. 4 and 10.
