ATHENS, Ohio -- "Grover, Grub and Gridiron," a community picnic to showcase renovations to Grover Center and Peden Stadium, is set for 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at the football practice facility between Grover Center and Peden Stadium.
Community members are invited to bring their picnic blankets and enjoy some traditional summertime fare, including hot dogs, ice cream and beverages.
President Robert Glidden and his wife, Rene, and Trustee Brandon "Tad" Grover, and his wife, Ann, have invited Athens area residents to the free community picnic and open house to tour the university's two newly renovated facilities: Grover Center, the new home of the College of Health and Human Services, and Peden Stadium. Grover Center was named for Grover's father, Butch, Ohio men's basketball coach from 1922 to 1938 and later assistant to the university's president.
Ohio's athletic coaching staff and the Bobcat mascot will be on hand to meet attendees, who can take a chance at winning Ohio University football and basketball season tickets or one-year memberships to WellWorks. Football fans also can choose their seats and purchase season tickets.
The WellWorks facility and the Ohio University Hearing, Speech and Language and Physical Therapy Clinic are just two of the College of Health and Human Services departments that have moved to Grover and will be open for the self-guided tour. The dean's office, the School of Human & Consumer Sciences, the School of Nursing and the School of Physical Therapy also have moved to their new locations in Grover. By mid- to late August, all of the college's six schools will be housed in the building.
