ATHENS, Ohio -- Obtaining books and articles from libraries outside of Ohio has become more streamlined for patrons of Ohio University Libraries in Athens, thanks to the recent introduction of the ILLiad computer software system.
ILLiad software is a comprehensive interlibrary loan management system that improves the processing of requests for both library users and staff. New features include real-time tracking of requests, email alerts about deliveries, online renewals and online retrievals. For staff, the software automates many procedures and eliminates keeping paper records of transactions.
Following registration for first-time users, a simple log-on provides access to the forms for entering requests and to the records of current and completed requests.
Currently, those with Athens campus university affiliations are able to utilize the system, but plans are underway to expand the system to the other Ohio University libraries in the region.
Approximately 60 libraries use ILLiad, which was created at Virginia Tech.
Questions about ILLiad and its use should be directed to the Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery office in Alden Library, (740) 593-2691. Further information is available on the Web at http://illiad.library.ohiou.edu/.
