ATHENS, Ohio (June 28, 2001) -- The Ohio Sports Network (OSN), broadcast arm of Ohio University Athletics, has added a new affiliate to its radio lineup. WRAC-FM, based in West Union, will begin carrying Bobcat Football games in the 2001 season.
OSN, which was created in 1994, is currently affiliated with 13 radio stations that cover southeast Ohio, along with Columbus and Cleveland. Derek Scott, Director of Broadcasting and Marketing for Ohio Athletics, says this has been a year of great growth for the OSN. "This is the third very significant move we have made this spring. We have greatly extended our reach in southern and northeast Ohio." Scott recently changed OSN's affiliation in Cleveland, moving to 50,000 watt WRMR-AM, and added WZIO-FM in Scioto County to the OSN lineup.
WRAC, which is located at 103.1 on the FM dial and known as C103 Country, carries an abundance of high school athletics. General Manager Don Bowles points out that the lack of high school football in the Southern Hills League leaves a void during the fall months. "This will provide some exciting play-by-play for sports fans waiting for the high school basketball season to begin."
Scott hopes the affiliate relationship with WRAC creates new fans for the Bobcats. "Folks from Adams, Brown and Highland Counties have shown the willingness to visit Athens in large numbers for postseason basketball play at the Convo. We would love to see them on Saturdays this fall at Peden Stadium."
The broadcast season begins with the Coach Brian Knorr Show August 27th and Ohio's season opening football game at Akron August 30th.
