Caryn Asleson Named College Of Arts and Sciences Assistant Dean For Student Affairs

ATHENS, Ohio (June 22, 2001) -- Caryn H. Asleson has been named assistant dean for undergraduate student affairs in the College of Arts and Sciences. She replaces Kathy Schumacher who is retiring.
Asleson comes to Ohio University from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. where she worked in the areas of student affairs and student support for more than 14 years. She most recently served as director of academic services. She earned both her masteršs degree in counseling science and her doctor of education degree with a specialty in higher education from Nova University.
"Dr. Asleson brings a breadth of experience to the position," said Leslie A. Flemming, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. "She has worked with diverse student populations and has extensive counseling experience that will help us strengthen our services in the areas of student advising and student retention."
In addition to providing student support services, Asleson also taught behavioral sciences courses for some 10 years and developed and taught courses designed to help first-year students cope with transitions. She is a member of the National Academic Advising Association.
