ATHENS, Ohio (June 4, 2001) -- Shane Gilkey, former department administrator for the Department of Physics and Astronomy, has been named director of budget and planning in the Vice President for Research division at Ohio University.
In his new post, Gilkey will manage budgets and assist Vice President John Bantle with financial planning for the research division, which has an annual budget of about $5.5 million in operating funds.
"Shane's extensive budgetary experience at Ohio University and his recent position in the Department of Physics and Astronomy will be invaluable to our unit as the university continues its upward climb in research," Bantle said. "Shane will help us maximize our resources, improve our efficiency and help us serve the faculty effectively. We are delighted he is with us."
The director of budget and planning position was created to assume budgetary responsibilities that once were held by the associate vice president for research, a position that no longer exists.
Gilkey has been employed by Ohio University since 1993, and has held budget administrative positions in the dean's office of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Vice President for Finance division and, most recently, the Department of Physics and Astronomy. In his most recent post, he was responsible for administering an estimated $6 million annual budget, which included $3 million in operating funds and more than $3 million in grant funding.
Gilkey received a bachelor's degree from Ohio University in 1988 in business administration and finance and business management.
