ATHENS, Ohio (May 4, 2001) -- Ohio University Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Jeffrey Giesey has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar award to teach and assist with curriculum development in engineering at the Polytechnic of Namibia at Windhoek in southern Africa.
"The ultimate object will be to help the people of the developing world realize more of the benefits that engineering can bring," Giesey said. "Through my research, I hope to improve the understanding of the engineering curriculum development process with specific emphasis on engineering education in developing countries."
Giesey has been at Ohio University for 12 years and is assistant chair of the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He completed bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering at Michigan State University and a doctorate at University of Michigan in bioengineering.
Giesey leaves in December for a year in Namibia and will be accompanied by his wife, Eve, and four children, Elizabeth, Esther, Mary Jane and Matthew. He is one of more than 40 Ohio University faculty members who have won Fulbright Scholar awards.
