ATHENS, Ohio (September 22, 2000) -- Items of all sizes, shapes and uses will go to the highest bidders during the surplus auction beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, outside Building 10 on The Ridges at Ohio University.
About 1,000 items will go on the auction block. Among the more notable offerings are several bikes, guitars, a snow removal truck, several other vehicles, a sheet metal finger brake, pickup truck bed toppers, office furniture, sofas, VCRs, TVs, IBM and Macintosh computers, jewelry, a band saw and a 24-inch wood planer. The auction items are from Ohio University's Surplus Management Office and the City of Athens. Three or four such auctions have been held annually since 1998.
"These auctions allow people to get good quality equipment at relatively low prices, in many cases," Ohio University Director of Surplus Management Gary Dicken said.
Items will be available for viewing between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29.
Shamrock Auction Services will conduct the bidding, and refreshments will be sold during the auction.
