ATHENS, Ohio (April 19, 2001) -- Selecting a college can be stressful; deciding a major can be even harder. The Ohio University College Exploration Program is designed to make the transition to college easier for high school sophomores and juniors by helping them identify their personal interests and academic strengths. The program will be offered during regular summer sessions at Ohio University from Jun. 18 to Jul. 20.
Students selected to participate in the program take as many as two intensive-paced college courses and participate in a specialized career exploration seminar of their choice. The one-day seminars focus on establishing goals and include guest speakers, field trips, tours, hands-on projects and discussion sessions. Students also have access to other aspects of college life, including recreation facilities and the option of living in a university residence hall and eating at the dining facilities.
"The College Exploration Program is a chance for the high school students to experience college life and investigate career choices in the relaxed summer atmosphere in Athens," Ohio University Director of Summer Sessions and Special Programs Pam Brown said.
To register for the College Exploration Program, students must obtain a recommendation from their high school guidance counselor or a current teacher and also return the registration application with the $185 program fee by May 1. Upon acceptance, students will receive a bill for Ohio University tuition fees that is due on Jun. 1.
