ATHENS, Ohio (April 18, 2001) -- On Friday, Apr. 20 and Saturday, Apr. 21, the Ohio University Sports Marketing Club will be holding the Second Annual Sport Management Conference. The two-day event is designed to provide students from Ohio University and other educational institutions in the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley areas the opportunity to speak with, listen to, and network with some of the sport industry's top executives.

The purpose of the Ohio University Sports Marketing Club is to introduce club members to the sport industry, create job and internship opportunities, and to help students enhance their resume with practical experience. This is accomplished by bringing in professional sports figures, marketing sporting events for the Ohio University Athletic Department, and gaining practical experience by producing and promoting our own events.

The highlight of this year's conference will be a keynote presentation by Senator Mike DeWine (R-OH). DeWine will speak at 8:30 p.m. Friday evening. Other speakers for this year's conference include Alan Bailey, ISP Sports; Bill Carter, Fuse Sports Marketing; Tina Gust, Minor League Baseball; and Paul Panzera, SCA Promotions.

The keynote presentation is to be held in the conference facility at Bromley Hall, 35 South Congress Street in Athens. The events on Saturday are scheduled to be held in Irvine Hall on the West Green at Ohio University. However, Saturday's location is subject to change.

The cost of the conference is $40, which includes a buffet dinner on Friday evening. Registration begins at 6 p.m. Friday with refreshments, and dinner is to begin at 7 p.m.
