Ohio University Ranked Among Nation's Best by

ATHENS, Ohio (September 1, 2000) -- Ohio University continues to be ranked among the nation's best colleges and universities. For the second straight year, the university is rated one of the top 50 national public universities by U.S. News & World Report in its annual "America's Best Colleges 2001" edition.
This year, Ohio University is ranked 44th among its peer institutions. U.S. News & World Report defines national universities as institutions that offer a full range of undergraduate majors plus master's and doctorate programs and also emphasize faculty research.
"Being ranked is a point of pride for the entire campus community. I am pleased that Ohio University continues to be recognized among the leading universities in the nation," Ohio University President Robert Glidden said. "The university strives to offer first-rate academic and student programs, and this acclaim is a reflection of the quality of our students, faculty and staff. The magazine uses a number of factors to measure academic excellence. Among them are academic reputation, student retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, graduation rate and alumni giving rate.
