CATVision Adds 15 Channels for Spring Quarter

Contact: Gordon Pettey, (740) 593-1854

ATHENS, Ohio (March 6, 2001) -- Ohio University's cable TV system -- CATVision -- will add 15 new channels during Spring Break week, which runs March 19-25.

The new channels will include Fox Sports Ohio, Fox News, Fox Cable, WGN, The Disney Channel, The Golf Channel, Ohio News Network, Time Warner Central Ohio SportTV, TV Land, Home & Garden, Country Music TV, Turner Classic Movies, Bravo, Travel Channel and Animal Planet. This summer, CATVision has plans to add MSNBC before the start of fall quarter.

"We have negotiated an expansion of our channel lineup to coincide with Time Warner's channel expansion in the City of Athens," said Gordon Pettey, assistant director of housing and dining services. "CATVision has received repeated requests to add Fox Sports Ohio and The Golf Channel and the School of Journalism has been eager for us to add Ohio News Network."

Pettey said the Time Warner expansion gave CATVision the opportunity to add these requested channels "and they also offered us all the other new channels they are adding to their basic package."

Students returning to the residence halls for spring quarter will need to reprogram their televisions to recognize the new lineup. Last summer, in anticipation of adding new channels, CATVision expanded the channel capacity of its campus distribution system from 450MHz to 550MHz.

"These new channels will effectively fill-up the additional bandwidth with a total of 77 channels," Pettey said.

CATVision is a private cable system, owned and operated by Ohio University's Housing and Dining Services.
