ATHENS, Ohio (February 21, 2001) -- Malaysian actor Mano Maniam, who played the Indian servant Monshee and co-starred with Jodie Foster in the movie "Anna and the King," will appear in the premier of the two-man play, "At a Plank Bridge," at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, in Galbreath Chapel.
The story takes place in Southeast Asia immediately after World War II when the Japanese occupied the British colonies of Malaya and Singapore. Written by Kannan Menon, the play also stars Ming Lee, a Malaysian Chinese actor who appeared in Martin Scorcese's "Kun Dun" and the 1998 film "Return to Paradise."
Maniam, a Fulbright Distinguished Artiste, will also visit the Athens and Zanesville campuses of Ohio University, performing and lecturing on the role of arts in national development, the shifting political climate in Southeast Asia and the implications of globalization and multicultural diversity.
