ATHENS, Ohio (February 21, 2001) -- Ohio University's Center for International Studies is seeking
papers and panelists for its international conference "Children of the World: Risk and Hope" April 5-8 on the Athens campus.
Whether they live in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, Europe or Southeast Ohio, children face many of the same challenges, said Cat Cutcher, conference coordinator.
"We hope teachers, social workers, childcare providers, children's advocates, parents anyone involved with the welfare of children will attend the conference," Cutcher said. "In some counties in Southeast Ohio more than 50 percent of our children live below the poverty level. Many of the issues facing children worldwide are right in our backyard."
Conference topics of local interest include child development, education, conflict resolution, children's health, poverty, domestic violence, public policy and other related topics.
Deadline for submission of a one-page proposal is March 1. For more information or to submit a proposal, contact Catherine Cutcher, Center for International Studies, 56 E.
