ATHENS, Ohio (February 21, 2001) -- Participants can demonstrate their good taste during the "Chili Thing at Ping" soup-tasting extravaganza from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 24, in the Ping Student Recreation Center at Ohio University. The event will feature the recipes of several Athens businesses.
Half of the $5 admission charge will benefit Habitat for Humanity. "The Ohio University Coalition for Habitat offers a terrific opportunity for students, faculty and staff to turn their efforts and energies toward a common goal: building decent, affordable homes in Athens County," Coordinator of the Ohio University Coalition for Habitat for Humanity Nancy Crist said. "By participating in the Chili Thing at Ping, people can make an important contribution to this most worthwhile cause."
Jeremy Neuhart, president of the Ohio University Student Alumni Board, is also excited about the chili cook-off.
"What could be better than eating the best chili around and helping Habitat at the same time?" said Neuhart.
Chili samples will be available from businesses such as Skipper's Pub, Damon's and Avalanche Pizza. With such an assortment of chili, even the pickiest taste buds are sure to be pleased. The Ohio University Student Alumni Board and Campus Recreation are sponsoring the event.
The chili taste-off is part of Dads Weekend activities at Ohio University and will finish just in time for students and their dads to walk over to Bird Arena and watch the 7:30 p.m. hockey game between Ohio University and Michigan State.
